Counter clockwise from top left: Magnapaulia laticaudus - A very large lambeosaurine hadrosaur. Formerly a species of Lambeosaurus.
Eoabelisaurus mefi - Hailing from the Middle Jurassic, the oldest known abelisaurid.
Nyasasaurus parringtoni - Possibly the oldest known dinosaur or a very close relative. Spent a long time in limbo, now finally published. (The original description was written up in 1956!)
Yutyrannus huali - A large (albertosaurine-sized) tyrannosauroid preserving feathers, confirming that at least some large coelurosaurs didn't lose their plumage.
Ichthyovenator laosensis - A spinosaurid that appears to have had a strange notch in its sail.
Sciurumimus albersdoerferi - Known from a well-preserved juvenile theropod with feathers. Its describers find it to be a megalosauroid. Being a juvenile, it's difficult to reliably code in an analysis, but if this is true it would be the first unequivocal evidence of theropod feathers outside of Coelurosauria.
Schizooura lii - A fork-tailed Mesozoic euornithine.
Is the little dinosaur on the yutyrannus head a sciurumimus, he,s my favorite and you captured his squirrely nature, i love all of your dino interpretations
What are your predictions for the new year? I'm hoping for a major splitup of Psittacosaurus, a Middle Jurassic coelophysoid and a non-spinosaurid megalosauroid from the Cretaceous. (If I had to choose something that's been rumored to be coming out for a while, then I'll go with Hone's Gasosaurus paper.)
For wild mass guessing, more feather color studies and therizinosaur gut contents. For stuff that I've heard might be coming, a new archaeopterygid-type thing and feathered dinosaur specimens from Siberia.
I love the fact almost every dinosaur on this picture is feathered, but I think you´ve been a little bit too theropod-centric on this one. Xenoceratops, Pegomastax, Coronosaurus and Kaatedocus deserve the spotlight, too
Xenoceratops and Kaatedocus were the ones I considered including, but no cigar. To be honest I get the feeling theropods stole the show even more than usual in 2012! All I can say is that I hope 2013 is a better year for other groups to shine.
